two questions

Postby DuoMaxwell007 » Thu Jun 02, 2011 7:47 pm

1) I know back in september this was announced as a 4 player game online, now back in march or april its been announced as just two players online.. which is it?

2) and this is an indepth question about editing. I read this on the ps blog:

"I’m on the fence with this game. I love true oldskool Real Time Strategy games but… From what I seen it’s all about taking fighters into battle… I’ve not seen any kind of building, resource gathering and that layer of strategy I look for in my strategy game.
Is this not included?"

and the reply was this:

"There is no resource gathering in Under Siege, it is all about fighting and strategy. Lastly, if you pick up the Editor you can create levels without the Prep/Battle Phase and pump out an old-school RTS style game with resource gathering so…"

So heres my question, is there a limit to what I could do if i wanted to make lets say an age of empires (the first 1) style game using the editor. For example be able to make 200 units, some units require certain building types to be created in (so id have to be able to make different building types which I could then make those buildings queue the type of soldiers I want. of course soldiers and buildings would require resources to be made so could i make up my own resources like lets say food, wood and gold... then make trees, followed by animals to hunt (or at least harvestable spots on the ground), and mine shaft looking structures then have a buncha soldiers chopping wood, harvesting food and mining gold at all times to keep a steady flow of resources coming in so I can build the number of building and troops required.

Also if i could do something like that how would I program lets say enemy AI to do the same if Im having deathmatch style games (where every unit and structure must be destroyed to achieve victory) if im playing with the AI would they be smart enough to know they have to build structures and troops too or is map/game editing only for local/online multiplayer? Also even though this part isnt a necessity could I make siege weapons and walls around my village as well as are there any maps with water where i could build docks then build transport boats (and attack ships)?

I know all that sounds a little deep, but LBP is supposed to be a platformer yet Ive seen ppl make racing games, smash bros clones and FPSs out of the editing tools in that so who know what Under Siege might be capable of

1 - It is a 2 player online and local game.

2 - Lots questions here let me go at by parts.
- You can change gameplay to create some sort of resource gathering to pump out units. We really don't know how deep you can go with the changes in gameplay, we are expecting some surprises. I don't know if you can do all you want.
- Strucutures and props are the ones provided with the game. You can use rocks and other stuff and pile them to make it look like something else but thats about it.
- A.I. is possible to be sort of adjusted so they do what you want. You can have an online game for 2 where both players are Users and then have all sorts of varied A.I. doing stuff and make them react or not to other things. They can be directed to only attack something and then move on and etc.
- You have destructible things in the game, but it is confined to some props only. You can however assign life bars to props and create triggers based on props etc.
- Everything you do in the Editor can be played online and offline 1 or 2 players (splitscreen)

The example we normally give is that you can if you want create a map that is nothing related to an RTS game like a Diablo style gameplay or an RPG if will.
We will be posting until the weekend the official Editor Manual online so you can see what you can do with the Editor before you buy the game.
